    Getting TO/AROUND: You can buy a 24 hour pass for the Vaporetto, or water bus, for 18,000 Lira, or about $9. Although you can access the main parts of the city on foot, the Vaporetto can be fun (particularly the #1, which cruises the grand canal), and is essential if you plan to visit one of the islands or if there is extensive flooding!

    Getting TO/AROUND: Everyone told me that I would get lost in Venice, no matter how good my map was. I found this not to be true, not because of the quality of my map, but because of the many signs that help you find where you're going. Of course, sometimes these were confusing (pointing simultaneously in two directions at once, but this just meant that you could go either way.) If you put your trust in the signs (and trust that you'll find another one eventually if you keep walking) you'll reach your destination sooner or later.
