When our ship sailed past the Plaza San Marco, it was completely flooded, but they had some raised walkways that people crowded up on to get around. Fortunately, it had drained by the time we got back there that afternoon, and it was something to see. The pigeons were overwhelming (I didn't like that one bit) and the coffee was outrageously expensive, but it's something one needs to experience. We toured the Basilica di San Marco (St. Mark's remains are there), the Palazzo Ducale (where the Doge, or ruler, lived) and had coffee on the square. It just must be done.
