My wife and I visited here for 2nights / 3 days at the end of May 2007. A very nice city, but be prepared for lots of walking and lots of hills!! We didnt mind this and spent 2 full days walking around the main streets and backstreets, browsing in the small, privately owned shops. There were very few big name, chain stores, which was something we liked about the city. We also spent a lot of time "browsing" in the local bars and cafes, of which there are loads. The city is one of the friendliest I have visited. The bar / cafe staff were always welcoming and happy to see you, but also be warned there is not a lot of English speaking in Santander. Again we liked this as it gave us plenty of opportunity to practice our Spanish. I would recommend a short break to Santander for couples after a relaxing, carefree few days but not to families with young children. The city is a lot bigger than we expected. |
