Swimming with whale sharks in Donsol, Philippines Close encounter with Butanding aka Whale Sharks in The Philippines Have you ever been swimming with a fish 50 times bigger than yourself? I tried that on my Philippine trip in Donsol. Wooooww that was amazing to be near these gentle giants of the tropical sea. I looked it right in the eye but there was no reaction - it only moved slowly through the water. I was there with barbie_sunrise and we had about 12 dives and saw about 10 whale sharks. I bought a under water camera (to use once) with only 28 shots. See more on my Donsol page.
VT event April 5-6th: "Perspire to Inspire" We climbed Mt. Pulag and participated in charity in Bashoy village We were a trekking group incl. many VT'ers: missmarianne, barbie_sunrise, queenn, winzkie_d_pooh, jonXXX, kentski11 and me OH_DK that climbed Mt. Pulag. We waked up in our tents at 3 am in Camp 2, had some breakfast before putting on the head lamps and hiking the last 1-2 hours to the summit. With 2,922 meters it's 2nd highest mountain in The Philippines. We saw a fantastic sunrise on the top.
After the climb we went down to a little local village "Bashoy" where we donated clothes, schoolbooks/ tools, toys etc. to the locals, and had a fantastic party with them. See more at my Province of Benguet page - also made some videos from the event.
I'm now building my Philippine VT page including photos from the VT meet in Manila on April 3rd. Aida aka asianbelle set up this meet, and I was honored to meet so many local VT'ers on my first day in Manila.
It seems that many Filipinos use Multiply so I started to upload my photos and videos there. My name there is: oveh Click here to see the site. Updates from Euromeet in Cascais I will start to upload my videos taken in Cascais and Lisbon :) Here I have some Fado songs (with Antonio) from the party in Lisbon and a few clips from the ride with the tram. I will soon put up some photos in travelogues.
Hot news from my VT friends: On May 20th in the evening I got a text message from my good VT friend Lena44u telling that she gave birth to her daughter Amelia Joanna few hours earlier! She said: "I'm exhausted but damn happy!" CONGRATULATIONS Lena !! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ |

| | Welcome to my VT pages I intend to build up my travel pages little by little and tell you about my travels along the way. I will try to make tips that is usefull for travelers who haven't been to a place before, but I'll also add my personal impression of what the tip is about. If information in my tips is not correct or need an update please let me know.
I have a lot of photos from my travels in Europe, North and Central America from the 80s and 90s. Most of them are taken with my old camera and are not digital. I found out that it takes quite some time to build and organize these pages and tips - and I prefer to go traveling instead of sitting too long time infront of the computer. I'm interested in traveling, music, photografy, nature, people, genealogy, hiking, sports like: cycling, inline skating, skiing, sailing, badminton etc.
I really have enjoyed all the meets, events and travels I've been to since I joined VT January 2007 and have had fun surfing around on the pages of the members all over the world. I hope you will also enjoy looking at my travel pages and maybe can use my tips. All my pages will be under constantly construction - I will go back to pages when I get new ideas, have better photos or want to add more tips.

VT meetings 2008
One week with VT friends in Slovenia, February 2008In February I was in Slovenia where I met with VT'ers Tuna_ank and paragianna75. We stayed in the idyllic little town Bled in northern Slovenia not far from the Austrian border. We rented some rooms in a local house and did a lot of touring around in the mountains. One day we went to the skiresort "Vogel" in Bohinj vally and went skiing with a great view to the highest mountain of Slovenia "Triglav". We also arranged a VT meet in Ljubljana where we met the local VT'er mircaskirca (Mira) and were eating in a nice restaurant "Pri Skofu". Euromeet in Karleruhe "Back to the roots", May 2008In May I was supposed to participate in a sail race in Denmark "Fyncup" but the sailboat went into a stone and was damaged. Instead I checked my old Citroen and drove 900 km. down to VT Euromeet in Karlsruhe. Have a look at my Karlsruhe page and my Heidelberg page. 1 week in Iceland, June 2008In June I spend a good week in the old Viking country Iceland aka "Land of ice and fire". You can also call it Land of beautiful waterfalls, Geysers, hot water, lava fields, volcanoes, Icelandic horses, great nature with millions of sea birds, whales and fish. I will soon set up an Iceland page, when more of my photos are ready. Here you have my first waterfall photo from Iceland ;-) - this is "Skógafoss" in South Iceland. I was there with group of 20 Slovenes. We stayed 4 days in Reykjavik 4 days in a small village Grennivik on the north coast. We were traveling in a little bus, and saw a lot of beautiful sights and attractions. Roadtrip in Poland and Baltic Sea area, Aug. 2008In August I was in Poland, Bornholm and Skĺne (southern Sweden) with my VT friends Tuna_ank and paragianna75. We rented a car in Warsaw and drove to Krakow, Wroclaw and Poznan. We also went to visit Lena44u in Szamotuly (near Poznan) - we had a great time with her and her family. After one day with Lena we went up to the Baltic coast, and took a boat to the island Bornholm, Denmark (aka Pearl of the Baltic Sea) - spend two days there and then took an other boat to Skĺne, Sweden and finally we came to Copenhagen where I was guide for Tuna_ank a few days. _________________________________________________________________ | | | "Skógafoss" in South Iceland |

| | Cappadocia, Turkey Sept. 2007 This photo is taken just before sunset in Göreme, Turkey (a little village in Cappadocia). We were a group of 5 VT'ers 2 Turkish, 1 Greek and 2 Danes who were going to fly in hot air balloon the next morning at sunrise. This is the view over Göreme - we were just having a glass of local white wine while watching the sunset - fantastic light on the strange landscape around Göreme with so called "Fairy chimneys" all over the place. This landscape is the result of volcanic activity some 14 million years ago I read. A big layer of "tuff" (consolidated volcanic ash) was covered by a thin layor of harder rock (more resistant to erosion) and through million of years erosion formed these fantastic Fairy chimneys. People has lived here for the last approx. 8000 years. You can fine caves, churches, houses, underground villages and even a little castle in Uchisar on the highest point in the region all build in this soft tuff stone. First Epistle of Peter in the Bible was written to people in this region. _________________________________________________________________ |
George took us around on Sark The island Sark - one of the smalest states with own flagThe horse George (photo) took us on a sight seeing tour on the small dirt roads on the island. George was clever and knew all the roads - the woman just told him where to go and we came there. In 2007 I visited Sark with good friends. Sark is one of the Channel Islands between England and France and considered the last feudal state in Europe. It's about 5,4 square km. and the population is about 600. It's a car-free zone and only vehicles allowed are horse-drawn vehicles, bicycles, tractors, and battery-powered buggies or motorised bicycles for elderly or disabled people. Read more about Sark in this link. _________________________________________________________________ | | | George is waiting for us to get in the waggon. |

This vikingship sailed to Ireland in 2007 The warior ship returned to Roskilde in 2008This viking ship "Havhingsten fra Glendalough" is an exact copy of the 1000 year old ship "Skuldelev 2" that was excavated in the fjord of Roskilde. The ship is build the same way the vikings did, it's 30 m long and good for a crew of 65 vikings. After sailing from Roskilde to Dublin, Ireland in the period July 1st to Aug. 14th 2007 the ship was in a Dublin museum for the winter and in the summer 2008 it sailed back to Roskilde. This is the first viking ship crossing the North Sea in 1000 years. Click on the link above to read more about this voyage. Are you interested in vikings then see my tips on my Roskilde page._________________________________________________________________ | | | Havhingsten fra (Seastallion from) Glendalough |
