The middle of nowhere If you want a breath of fresh air, head to see the White Mountains in Lincoln, New Hampshire also known as Franconia Notch. The minute you get off the highway you are in a valley of moutains. I prefer going to the White Mountains off season in spring or fall. It's a ghost town, so you pretty much have to keep yourself occupied with the wonderful views of nature, and the variety of paths to hike. I recommend the Flume Gorge it's about a 2 mile hike up some pretty steep hills and muddy paths but well worth it when you reach the top. (There is also a shuttle that will take you up of you are lazy.) The Flume is a natural rock formation with a bridge of wooden stairs which you walk right on through the gorge, passing cascading waterfalls, and rainbows. Just driving down the highway, there are waterfalls, and basins. Also check out Mount Washington while you are up there. It' about a 45 minute right up the Kangamangus Highway and the views are spectactular. |
