The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex has recently been the focus of attention as it relayed pictures of Mars, transmitted by NASA's Pathfinder mission. At the Canberra Space Centre you can see space memorabilia. Check out what the well-dressed astronaut wears on the moon and view a piece of the Moon. A real must for everyone who is interest in space research. Canberra's tracking station is one of three Deep Space Communication Complexes (DSCC), which make up the global Deep Space Network (DSN) of radio antennas. The DSN's three Deep Space Communication complexes are positioned approximately 120 degrees apart to give maximum global coverage. These complexes are located in Goldstone (Mojave Desert, California, USA), near Madrid (Spain) and Tidbinbilla (ACT, Australia). Visit also the live web cam.

Visit Great Britain in the sun instead of smog, rain and cold. Cockington Green in Gold Creek offers you that. Cockington Green is a display of miniature buildings and gardens of Great Britain and is really worth a visit. Cockington Green was named after the quaint little village of Cockington in Torquay, Devon. In 1972, during a visit to, England, the Sarah family visited the Model Village at Babacombe near Torquay in Devon. They where so impressed that, when they returned to Australia they decided to research the possibility of construction of a similar display in Australia. After about 12 months of research into the financial viability, model construction and availability of suitable plants and shrubs, the decision was made to proceed with the project. Late in 1976, work commenced on construction of the Main Entrance building (see picture) and landscaping the display. I know a little garden close, Set thick with lily and red rose, Where I would wander if I might, From dewy dawn to dewy night... - The Life and Death of Jason William Morris. See for more info and pics in the Cockington Green travelogue please.

Also in Gold Creek you can find the National Dinosaur Museum. Australia's largest, permanent display of dinosaurs, fossils and prehistoric material. You will come face to face with Tyrannosaurus Rex or the fossilized Sabre Tooth Tiger. There are 300 exhibits including nine full-size replica skeletons of dinosaurs plus casts of huge bones, skulls and life-sized reconstructions of three Australian dinosaurs. For fearful people: you can always have a drink first in the George Harcourt Inn (see Gold Creek travelogue) that's near ;-) PS: The picture you see here is from their web page there my film was broken.

The Floriade is Australia's Celebration of Spring and is a 30-day floral extravaganza. A symphony of colour, with more than a million flowers blooming 'on cue' in the Commonwealth Park of Canberra, the national capital. The Floriade is every year between mid September to mid October. The slide-show you see is from the Floriade in 1999.
