  • Tip Rating:

  • The Sydney Aquarium is one of the largest and most spectacular Aquariums in the world. Sydney Aquarium is renowned for its unique display of Australian aquatic life.

Walk through tunnels beneath the sea and get close to the largest sharks you'll ever see. Enjoy the colour and the magic of live coral and myriads of tropical fish in the Great Barrier Reef display (see picture).

Darling Harbour: Visit the Chinese Garden of...
  • Tip Rating:

  • Visit the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Many Chinese migrating to Sydney in the early days settled around Darling Harbour, bringing a heritage rich in culture and traditions. Wanting to preserve and share this heritage, the Chinese community pushed for the establishment of a traditional Chinese garden. In 1984 the Guangdong Landscape Bureau in Sydney's sister city, Guangzhou (China), agreed to design the gardens - forming a lasting partnership with the State of New South Wales.
The Darling Harbour site was chosen, on one-hectare block adjoining Chinatown. On March 16th 1986, the ground was officially broken in a ceremony, which brought together representatives of both governments, the Darling Harbour Authority and the Chinese Community. When the work began the site was a desolate area of demolished buildings, used as a car park. Soon it was transformed into a fertile landscape providing a haven of peace and tranquillity in the heart of the city.
On January 17th 1988, the garden was officially opened and named the Garden of Friendship to symbolise the bond established between China and Australia. It is one of the few traditional Chinese gardens created outside main land China.

Zoo / Aquarium/ Animal parks: The Taronga Zoo, the zoo...
  • Tip Rating:

  • The Taronga Zoo, the zoo with the views!!! You will not be able to see kangaroos in the streets of Sydney, but you can see them just 12 minutes from the city by ferry in the best place to see Australian's amazing wildlife. The Taronga Zoo features a large selection of Australian fauna plus animals around the word. There's so much to see, you should allow most of a day to cover it all. Highlights include the seals, snow leopards, primates and endangered western lowland gorillas. Native animals too, are strongly - and sometimes impressively - represented. Only I was a little disappointed that most (dangerous) animals are behind glass walls, making photography difficult. That's the big different between the old Zoo of Antwerp and the modern Taronga Zoo. At various times the Zoo runs talks or shows on various aspects of the Zoo and the residents (not the human kind) show off their stuff.
