Bus from San Cristobal to Palenque

The ride from San Cristobal to Palenque is a bit rough... It is only about 250km but takes 5 hours and costs 120 pesos (12USD) one way with a first class bus. The road is VERY slow as it twists and turns through very scenic mountain roads and rather desolate Chiapas villages. Strong stomach required! Especially if a small baby vomits one row behind you. YURK!! Bus-jacking has been reported, so it is advisable to travel by day.

Colectivos to the Palenque ruins

The "colectivos" to the Palenque ruin leave down-town Palenque from the intersection Av. Juarez/Calle Allende and cost 10 pesos (1 USD) each way. You can get on one of the colectivos anywhere along the way to the ruins. DO NOT BUY A RETURN TICKET!! There is a ticket office at Av. Juarez/Calle Allende and they will try to sell you a return ticket, this ticket is however only valid for one type of colectivo, so if you buy the return ticket you'll have to wait at the ruins untill the right type of colectivo van comes along. This tip is valid for rides to all sorts of attractions all over the world: They will always try to sell you a return ticket stating that there might be no transport back. There ALWAYS is, infact you can often get a better deal by hooking up to a group or other at the attraction.
