"The Eyes of Rila" krassy's Profile

The Seven Rila Lakes

Well, I’m starting with one of my favorite places - breathtaking and full of magic!
It’s a group of lakes of glacial origin, situated in the Rila Mountain in Bulgaria. Each one of them is unique and is named after its characteristic shape. The lakes are numbered from top to bottom.

The Tear

Going downhill first you meet the highest one, called “Salzata” (The Tear) due to its crystal clear waters that allow visibility in depth.

The Eye

The next one in height carries the name “Okoto” (The Eye) according to its almost perfectly oval form. This one is the deepest. It changes whit every shade of the light, but when it’s sunny, has a color like no other!

The Kidney

The third one is “Babreka” (The Kidney). Funny name, isn’t it? :)

The Twins

The forth like is “Bliznacite” (The Twins). Actually that’s one lake- the largest and longest, nearly split into two. Here you can see only a small part of it and the nearest peak called “Haramiata”.

The Trefoil Lake

The fifth one “Trilistnika” (The Trefoil Lake) has quite an irregular shape.

The Fish Lake

The next lake is called “Ribnoto ezero” (The Fish Lake). Jus under the surface you can really see thousands of small dancing fishes and the sparkling light of their silver backs :)

The Low Lake

The last one is “Dolnoto ezero” (The Low Lake).
