Unlike other fortresses in the area this one was not built by the crusaders but by the Mulsims. The period though is about the same, at 1127 AD. This is the largest fortress in Israel and it sits on an isolated hill, 800m above sea level. When you do your way from the Banias stream, through Saar stream up towards the Golan Heights and the Hermon mountain, you will see it on the left, overlooking the road.

We had a kibbutz trip to Nimrods castle, great history & such a pretty area.
