Waldheim church
If you enjoyed the German Colony, you might want to visit another German place not far from Haifa. There are actually two of them, one in Galilean Bethlehem and the other in the nearby Aloney Abba. If you go by car from Haifa towards Nazareth or Tiberias, you should take a slight detour and go there. The two villages are located in the middle of an oak forest. The old houses are restored and you can find a lot of tourist attractions like galleries, restaurants and cafés.
Prophet Elija
In the southern outskirts of Daliyat el Karmil there is a little monastery called Muhraka. This is the highest point on the Carmel. The monastery stands in the place where, according to tradition, the prophet Elija conflicted the 400 false prophets.
From the roof of the monastery there is a great view of the Jezreel Valley, stretching eastwards from the Carmel to the Jordan river. According to the Bible, right after the conflict, prophet Elija went to King Ahab's palace down in the valley.
Anemone
The Carmel is the perfect place to go wild flower hunting. Look in the travelogue for a little sample of spring flowers.
Mount Carmel
The Carmel covers a large area, Haifa being the north-western tip. While you can see bits of nature inside the city limits (especially around Denya and the university), you will need to go beyond the university to get the real feel. Once you leave the city behind you can enjoy the beautiful nature. Huge number of wild flowers, pine trees, oaks and more.
See more pictures of the Carmel in the travelogue.
Daliyat el Karmil
There are two Druze villages only a few km from Haifa, Isfia and Daliyat el Karmil. These villages are located on the Carmel mountain and offer some great views of the Carmel landscapes. These villages are very popular, people come here on weekends from Haifa and even from Tel-Aviv to shop in the market or eat some Druze food.
Beit Shearim
Beit Shearim is located a few kilometers east of Haifa, just on the other side of the Carmel mountain. There used to be a Jewish village here in Roman times and some of most eminent figures from these times are burried here.
Spices
A spice shop in the old city of Acco on the northern tip of Haifa Bay. This shop, one of many in the old Turkish bazaar, is packed with all kinds of exotic spices, coffee, and much more...
Acre
At the nothern end of Haifa Bay lies the town of Acre or Akko like it's called in Hebrew. Here you'll find an ancient city more than 2000 years old. There are Crusaders remains from the middle ages and Turkish mosques, castles, etc. Apart of the historic places, you can find here a lively market full with exotic spices and traditional Arabic foods. Along the beach there are a lot of beautiful restaurants where you can eat fresh fish and sea food, delivered from the nearby fishermen harbour.

Another look at the spice shop in Akko.
Christmas
