Walks & Tours Guides: Orange Routes
  • Tip Rating:
  • There was famous Israeli writer and painter named Nahum Gutman, who grew up in Tel-Aviv. In his books he described the life in the city which was several years old at the time. One of his books was The Orange Peel Trail.

Several years ago the Tel-Aviv municipality marked several routes throughout the city, called Orange Routes. There are four such routes, you can get maps and details about them in the lobby of City Hall at 69 Ibn Gvirol Street or at 46 Herbert Samuel Street.

Walks & Tours Guides: Free Walking Tours
  • Tip Rating:
  • You can join free walking tours exploring different parts of Tel-Aviv. While most of them are Hebrew tours, there are a three English tours. You can probably skip the Tel-Aviv University tour, but try joining the Jaffa tour. The tour takes place every Wednesday at 9:30 AM. The meeting point is the Clock Tower in Jaffa. There is no need to book in advance, just show up.

The third tour is the Bauhas tour. It takes place every Saturday at 11:00 AM. The meeting point is 46 Rothschild Blvd.. This tour explores the historic cenre of Tel-Aviv and the modern architecture this part of Tel-Aviv was built in.

Safari in the middle of the city!: Zoological Centre Tel Aviv - Ramat Gan ("Safari")
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Tel-Aviv Zoo is the biggest in Israel. Only, it's not really in Tel-Aviv, it is located in Ramat-Gan. The zoo has two parts, the regular zoo where you walk around and the animals are enclosed and the safari part where you drive your car (or ride the internal train they have there for kids) and the animals roam free around you.

The old zoo used to be right in the city, behind city hall (where now stands the Gan Ha'Ir shopping mall). It was quite small and the neighbours didn't really like the sounds of smells. So, in the 70's it was moved to the National Park in Ramat-Gan (in the suburb of Ramat Chen). Now it's much bigger of course.

Off The Beaten Path: American Colony
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • A little known place, right on the border between Jaffa and Tel-Aviv. The area is quite small and completely surrounded by garages, but if you are looking for hidden, off the beaten path spots, this is the place for you. In order to get there go westeards on Eilat street, towards Jaffa and take a left at number 13. On the corner you'll see a wooden house. This house which is on the preservation list of the city is very unusual in Tel-Aviv and the entire country. Wooden houses are quite rare here, but if you follow the alley and walk around this place you will see some houses which seems like they were not belong here.

One of the major building here is the Emanuel Church which looks like a little piece in Germany in the middle of Tel-Aviv Yafo.
