Route nr 1 lies along the Pacific Ocean for almost the whole coast of California. It is a winding, scenic road, many times with beautiful views. The Central Coast lies between San Luis Obispo and Monterey. 15 miles north of San Luis Obispo lies the fishing village Morro Bay. More tourists than fishermen now, I think, but you still can see the fishingboats coming in the bay, followed by all sorts of birds. Brown pellicans, cormorants and seagulls are waiting for some leftovers of fish on a place on the Embarcadero, where people clean their fish. The Embarcadero is the 1,5 miles long "boulevard" along the bay. Morro Bay is named after the rock, lying in the sea before the coast. It has the shape of a Moorish hat and was called so by the Spanish explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542. You can drive with your car to the rock and enjoy the view on sea and village. The Morro Rock is the home for peregrine falcons. In the village are nice shops, but I liked most to walk along the Embarcadero. The best time to visit Morro Bay is in spring or fall, when you like to avoid many tourists. And even in October every weekend they come to the village, for fishing and sailing. website of Morro Bay More about Morro Bay |

was_the_beav Mon Apr 9, 2007 18:25 UTC Morrow Rock...has a melancholy, wistful ring to it, I think-- like an imaginary island all veiled by fog, where pelicans, penguins and all things that we've loved live on in the best of our dreams... | olja1234 Wed Jan 28, 2004 21:55 UTC Looks like a great place.
