A Park, where two deserts meet.... | Coyote in Joshua Tree N.P. |
Joshua Tree N.P. lies in the Southern part of California, 140 miles from Los Angeles, between rte 62, the Twentynine Palm Highway, in the north and Highway I-10 in the south. From the RT 62 you can enter the park in the towns Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms. The southern entrance, Cottonwood Springs, lies 25 miles east of Indio and is accessible from the I-10. Two deserts meet in the park, the Colorado desert in the eastern part, below 3000ft. and the Mohave desert, the western part, higher, cooler and moistier. In the latter you find the Joshua Trees (Yucca brevifolia), in the drier part the Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) and the Cholla cactus (Opuntia Bigelovii). Near the southern entrance is the man made oasis Cottonwood Spring, with palmtrees and a well.
An entrance of the park is very near the city Twentynine Palms. Sixteen interesting and mostly beautiful murals decorate many walls here. I forgot to make pictures of them:((, so here is a website, where you can see them. Like this one:
