Usually I read travelguides, see maps and pictures of my next travel destination. But never was the difference so big between what I read before my trip and what I really experienced as in Death Valley. OK, I knew it should be hot and rocky. A desert with an ominous name. One of the things that attracted me, that name. And then comes the moment when your car slowly descends along a winding road between brown , later pink rocks and suddenly the whole world looks different. The light is different than before, in Lone Pine. You see colored rocks like you have never seen before. Pink, yellow, turquoise. No sounds, only the wind. A very warm wind, because, yes, it is hot, although not so hot as in the summer. On our Octoberdays in Death Valley it was 41C (106F). The white snow on the rocky surface, here and there, is not snow, but salt. Death Valley made a deep impression on me. An unforgettable, stunning beauty. TRAVELOGUES click here. Death Valley N.P. |

| | I had to taste that water for you. It is so alkali rich, that only small crustaceans survive in it. My report: Salt, very salt. |
