We arrived in HCM expecting a big bustling horrible city. However we found it to be a vibrant, bustling, enjoyable city. Compared to the rest of Vietnam it seemed to be a lot more westernized. There was even a Gloria Jeans coffee place like we have in Australia, at Australian prices! However we were there over Tet, I would not recommend this, as everything shut down half way through our first day. It made it difficult to find affordable food and shop. However it was quite amazing to see the Tet celebrations however thousands of people outside our hotel day and night for 3 days wore a little thin! I would love to return one day when Tet isn't on.
