There is something just perfectly cheesy and classy about a mirror on a ceiling that seems to shout, "Las Vegas". My room, though in need of a redecoration, was quaint in a slightly Polyneisian way. The mirror on the ceiling seemed to fit in, and clash with the decoration scheme at the same time. It was quiet and comfortable, though, and I liked it. The hike to my room seemed on par with any other of the rooms I have had in the large hotels. I don't like those hikes, but I think they are to be expected in Las Vegas. As far as the service, I can't complain. The service staff was friendly and efficient and did what they could to make my stay enjoyable.
Unique Qualities: What a great deal! I loved my stay in this old bird. First, the price was right. One of the lower prices right on the strip, with all the conveniences that I wanted. This shining example of how to preserve the old Vegas style and still provide what the current visitor needs can be a lesson to several of the older hotels. Let me start with its location. On a corner that shares a walkway with the MGM Grand, as well as a walkway to the Excalibur, this is a great starting point for the hike up and down the strip. Several of the most modern and popular hotels are right near, the Luxor and New York, New York, to name two. Though even the most enthusiastic would probably not want to walk the whole strip, it is a great starting point with the bus stops and shuttle nearby.
The pool was fun. Its designer seemed to had made an attempt to make it look like it was on a lovely tropical island. The pool had a few little cozy spots where one could hide out and watch the tanned bodies go by. Close to the pool was my favorite spot, the spa. For just a few dollars a day, I bought a pass to sit in the sauna and let the stress of the strip melt away.
