During the time when the Burmese Army attacked Ayuthaya they killed lots of people, burned their houses and even invaded the temples burned them and cut the head and arms of the Buddah statues.
Some stories said, the reason why the Burmese Army cut the head and arms of the statue it is because they thought there were gold and hidden treasure inside the body.
Upto now,you can find lots of headless and armless Buddah statues within the complex.
Ayuthaya can be reach by land or a River Cruise . Package tours usually offer travelling by land on your way to Ayuthaya while River Cruise on your way back to Bangkok.
As for the land travel, approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hrs while on your way back approximately 3 - 3 1/2 hrs.
On board, you can avail snacks while lunch is usually included in the package.
Both ways, the view and scenic beauty of Thailand will entertain you.
Another sample of an architectural design which yo can find within Ayuthaya.
These are all man made temples which captivates many tourists upto this time.
The red bricks are really eye candy esp when you have a good shot of it.
This is anothe sample of a Wat inside Wat Mahathat. This spaceship like architecture needs refurbishing to preserve its beauty. Some of it are either leaning or sinking on the ground.
Within the temple of Mahathat you can find lots of red rusty bricks piled together. The look so amazing and really eye catching.
As per our guide, you can find the same kind of architectural design in Cambodia and Burma.
Near the entrance of Wat Mahathat, you can find the Big Sitting Buddah with orange cloth robe.
Within the complex, you can find lots of Buddah statues either reclining or sitting. Take your pick and strike a pose.
This temple is situated near the city canal. It was built by King Rhama I centuries ago.
You can find one big Buddah statue inside and expect the place to be a little bit crowded and mostly flocked both by tourists and locals.
Note:
You have to remove your shoes/ slippers when coming inside.
This Reclining Buddah is the biggest in Thailand while the one in Bangkok can be considered as the second largest.
It is made of stone with a height of 8 meters and length of 37 meters.
A gigantic image of Buddah wherein the visitors will look so tiny when they come near to have picture taking.
There have been many stories behind this Buddah's head in the tree roots which you can find in the Mahathat compund.
Alot of tales has been said how miraculously a buddha's head can fit inside a tre root. Whatever is the real story behind it , for sure it strengthens the faith of the Thai people.
Bang Pa-In Palace or the Summer Palace was built during the 17th century. It was used as a summer residence by the royalties during that time.
Within the complex, you can find Chinese and Thai Pavillion, garden, tower and a pond.
walking within the whole area can be a little tiring but you can rent a cart so you can move around easily.
Kiosk is available near the exit.
