Flew to Seville from Barcelona. Had all kinds of problems with Vueling, online. Switched to Iberia and for only Euro 5 more had my flight in a couple of minutes - including choice of seat which I wouldn't have had with Vueling. Then it turned out that they were the same flight LOL - a combo Vueling/Iberia flight. No problems. Took the Aeroporte bus to the last stop and walked about 7 minutes to my hostal.
Got a great recommendation from maranyc for a walking tour. Called Concepcion and confirmed my reservation with her for the next day. Walking through the tiny twisty streets of the Old Town was very confusing at first. Took a couple of days to get my bearings. The maps are okay, but the lack of street signs is maddening! Actually it is an easy walk to Plaza Nueva via Maria Blanca to the city center where the tours meet, but the first couple of times I wondered if I would get there on time.
Visited the Tourist Info Office. A bit of a difficulty finding them. The main office is actually very close to the Alcazar, but around a couple of corners and... The hours are limited and the info available likewise - I never did manage to find the Museu de Puerto, sorry to say..
Found a pretty good internet shop across the street from the Alcazar upstairs on the second floor over a coffee shop.
Lots of small convenience shops and even a small bakery in the Santa Cruz area. No problem buying sandwich makings, fruit, veggies, milk, plastic knives and so on for meals in the room at my hostal. Even found a laundry but they were out of jetons for the machines, so back to hand laundry again.
Intercity bus station is a few minutes walk from the area. The train station is a longer walk or a short bus ride.
Great day trip to Cordoba
One of the nice things about Santa Cruz is that it is tourist oriented - if that is what you want. You can live and eat local foods or get a tourist restaurant if you prefer. I very much enjoyed the typical Spanish breakfast of tostado con tomate y aceite de but sometimes I get hungry for eggs for breakfast - that too was easily available. More expensive of course, but occasionally worth the splurge :) Coffee everywhere was perfect. I found that cafe con leche - with just a bit of milk, was the best for me.
Went to a nice Flamenco show in a very small room of an ancient house - Casa de Memoirs.
In Seville most of the major tourist sites do not give senior discounts to people from non-EU countries. The Cathedral was the one exception. They accepted my passport as proof of age and gave me the senior discount.
Visited the Casa Pilatos, a private home but a veritable palace.
Visited the Alcazar - Shades of the Alhambra!
Visited the Maria Louis Parc. Very nice! Very popular with locals and visitors alike.
Nice Archeological Museum. Very well done imo. Interesting and educational.
The Museum of Costumes is fascinating - well worth an hour or so.
Found the Plaza Espanya impressive. Very large with a nice use of ceramic tiling.
Unlike Barcelona, Granada and Madrid, the HOHO tourist bus in Seville is not worthwhile imo.
As in every town and city I visited, lots of dogs. Well cared for, well trained. Often unleased. When leads are used they are usually the halter type rather than collars.
One funny experience. The streets in Santa Cruz are so narrow that when a car is travelling down one, there is no place to walk. The sidewalks that do exist are also very narrow. One day saw a dog step off of the sidewalk to do his business. Along came a car - - - and stopped. Behind him, three other cars came along while the dog was busy and then while the owner cleaned up after him. All the cars waited patiently, with no honking and no remarks made by the drivers!
Wish I could say the same for my city!
- Pros:Easy walking, pleasant people, fun to visit.
- Cons:Senior discounts for EU citizens only in most places.
- In a nutshell:A week here was good.

I'd like to re visit Seville soon. Ciao!
Your tips bring back pleasant memories of my own visit to Sevilla on my bicycle tour in 1963. I also stayed in Sevilla for a few days, but I don't remember much since it was such a long time ago.
dOn our 3 1/2 wks. in Spain, we loved visiting Sevilla. Your hotel tip is detailed and outstanding. Enjoyed reading your impressions and insights. Lovely photographs.
Hi Una! Nice to see your Sevilla page. Good tips, with useful information.
I'm a senior myself in a group with a ship based in Cadiz from 8-5. The ship's tour is $169 It includes walking the Alcazar & the Quarter, lunch and panoramic drive back to the ship. 8 hr minus 4 hr travel. Is Seville worth it? Thanks for your input!
Really great information and tips for Seville Una. This is a past of Spain that I'd really like to get to and you have made my mouth water - and yes I love marmalade made with sour oranges - add some lemon too - yum.
I will visit this city soon I hope, it looks great! and I like these non english speaking people too :)
certainly hope you are enjoying seville. our younger daughter lived there for four months while in college and we visited - fascinating, but maybe not six days worth. try ronda for a day trip. enjoy. n.
