Putrajaya is a planned city and a Federal Territory that acts as a federal government administration centre of Malaysia which was moved from the overcrowded and congested centre in Kuala Lumpur. It is named after the first Prime Minister of Malaysia - Tuanku Abdul Rahman Putra al-Haj. "Putra" means prince while "Jaya" means excellence or success.

Putajaya was founded in 1995 on the land which was formerly known as "Prang Besar" or "Big War" in English. The Federal Government negotiated with the state of Selangor on the purchase of the land and paid a substantial amount of money for the 11,320 acres of land. As a result, Selangor now completely surrounds 2 Federal Ferritories within its borders namely "Kuala Lumpur" and "Putrajaya".

The best way to see Putrajaya is to take a cruise along the 400-hectare man-made lake. A leisurely cruise through this meandering lake is a must for all visitors to Putrajaya to see and marvel at the city's many stunning landmarks.

It is also well-known as a Federal Government Administrative Centre (which was moved from Kuala Lumpur due to the very, very bad traffic and location) and as a government servant, I commute from Shah Alam everyday to Putrajaya to go to work in Parcel E, Precinct 1 (Putrajaya has 20 precincts). I especially love the Putrajaya residential area as it has an open concept - meaning no high walls and tall gates - making it a very friendly neighbourhood in Putrajaya!
