After spending half a week in the very touristy, Disneyish, city of Honolulu, going to Lahaina was like a blast of fresh air. Gone where the semi-dirty beaches of Waikiki, replaced with the sandbox feel of the well managed beaches of Maui. The waves were far more intense than Honolulu as well so the surfing was far more intense...even the body boarding was tough! The small, yet cozy town of Lahaina provides lots of evening entertainment and plenty of places to eat and shop. Lahaina is mix of locals and tourist so you get the snobby local attitude along with the helpful local attitude as well but overall I would much rather have spent my entire vacation in Lahaina. The views from the surrounding hillsides are breathtaking and even the public beachs have a resort feel to them. Everything is weell maintained. There are some beautiful drives around the Island of Maui and there are world class Golf Courses as well. Lahaina seemed much more like Hawaii then Honolulu, though I'm sure had I asked around I would have known that before I went! |
