"Florence: David and the Goliath Duomo!" Florence by wilocrek

I'm sure there are many different reasons for visiting Florence, personally I come for the McDonald's located right across the street from the train station. The Italians take on the Big Mac is a real treat, that and paying about three times what the Big Mac costs in the States. But that may just be me, others come to see David and the Goliath Duomo that dominates the skyline of Florence. Finding David is not too difficult, just ignore the replica statue that stands in one of the Piazza's and then just look for the long line of people waiting to get into the Academy to see the "real" David. My advice, bring along a bag of Big Mac's for the wait. That way while your clogging the streets waiting to see David, you can also clog your arteries at the same time! After a close up with David, whose physique suggests he never has partaken of anything from McDonalds, many visitors the wander their way over to the spectacular Goliath Duomo, the only other rival to David's magnificence. The Duomo literally dwarfs the town, it seems to loom at the end of every street that faces it and it always seems like its just a stone throw away, assuming of course that stone is slung from a slingshot of course...keeping with the metaphor. Simply put Florence is a charming city to wander around aimlessly in once the two big sites have been seen and logged in the to do list. Countless shops and cafe's line the many different streets that run from the Duomo that is the center of it all, but why waste time sampling the divine Italian fare when a McDonalds is so close by and really isn't that the real reason people come to Florence...or do I just need to re-evaluate my priorities when it comes to my traveling preferences?

Great trip review. Your pics and tips will prove helpful when we head to Florence in May. Thanks for sharing.
Hilarious that you didn't know! There is a big procession and pageant in Piazza del Duomo on Easter Sunday. . .I've got pics in a travelogue on my Florence page. But, Florence is amazing no matter what. Have you been back lately?
