Notre Dame is the starting point of Paris, on the square directly in front of the cathedral is a marker that points in all four directions, the city was measured out from this marker. Notre Dame, also know as "Our Lady", is the true definition of Gothic architecture. The cornerstones were laid in 1163 and construction was completed in 1250.

As fantastic as Notre Dame is by day, its even more awe inspiring at night, when the cathedral is lit up in a eerie luminescence that can be seen from almost any part of the city. Every part of its Gothic architecture is perfectly highlighted and accentuated for your viewing pleasure. At night the crowds have thinned and the square in front of Notre Dame has peaceful feel to it that isn't present during the heat and crowds of the day. So be sure during your visit to Paris to see Notre Dame at night and view it in a different "light"!

For some of the best views of Notre Dame, take a boat trip down the river Seine and have your camera ready the moment the cathedral is within view. From the river you will get angled shots of Notre Dame that you cannot get anywhere else. The back views of Notre Dame are impressive and can really only be seen well from the river. If anything you can just take the $20 hour cruise from the harbor next to the Effiel Tower and it runs right past Notre Dame.

Climbing the towers of Notre Dame is the best way to experience the cathedral and at the same time get some of the best views of Paris from the top. If your a Hunchback fan there are plenty of reminders of the sections of the tower's that played a integral part in the story. But again the best part are the views, sweeping views of the city and views of the back section of the cathedral including the flying buttresses and the impressive gargoyles. The line for the tower begins on the North side of Notre Dame. While admittance is included in the Museum and Paris Pass, there is no special entrance for pass holders, one line admits all!

As impressive as Notre Dame is from the outside, its even more impressive from within. The cathedral is dimly lit, allowing for the rays of sunlight to penetrate through the stain glass windows like laser beams that shoot across the high ceiling. There are many pews to sit on and reflect on the beauty of Notre Dame. Its one of the few places in the world where the beauty of the exterior is reflected from within.

In the square in front of Notre Dame lies a marker that points in all directions. Its from this marker that the streets of Paris were measured out from. It's hard to miss this marker as you will see many tourists taking their picture while standing on top of the marker.

Opéra Garnier: Where the Phantom of the Opera may reside...

Depending on what tour guide you listen to, the Phantom has his own seat at the Opera Garnier, but whether or not that is the case is besides the point, the Opera house itself is the true spectacle. Built between 1862 and 1875 and designed by Charles Garnier, this opera's ornate interior is adorned with lots of velvet and gold leaf. The impressive ceiling was painted by Chagall in 1964 and is rather ugly in my opinion.

One of the best tours of Paris is taking a cruise down the Seine River and taking in a unique perspective of the city. There are many different tours that leave from all over Paris, the most popular is the one hour cruise that leaves from the dock next to the Effiel Tower. The cruise is moderately priced at about $20, and their are options for dinner cruises as well. Simply put the views from the river are fantastic and it would be a shame to not at least book the one hour cruise and see them for yourself.

Some of the most beautiful views of Paris are of the bridges that criss cross along the Seine River. You can enjoy these views from the river itself or from the banks as well. Take the time while your strolling throughout the city to appreciate the art and architecture of the bridges of Paris.

Building started in 1875 and was completed in 1914. One of the largest mosaics in the world can be found in its interior, and its bell tower houses one of the world's largest bells, weighing in 19 tons. The views from the top are incredible, though don't really include the Effiel Tower from the steps. Its on these same steps at night where tourists and locals gather, kind of like the French version of Italy's Spanish Steps. On weekend nights there are often live bands playing there, playing covers of other bands like U2, and Pearl Jam to name a few. There definitely is an electric vibe in the air at night, be sure to check it out for yourself!
