"Montpelier, Vermont" Montpelier by jne7299318

Montpelier is the capitol of Vermont. Believe it or not I went to this city because of a television commercial. The city is small and very compact. The skyline is flat...no skyscrapers here. But there are many steeples that accent the skyline.

The town is reminiscent of the sixties. Lots of hippie looking people and boutiques and art shops can be found here. I found some nice gifts for friends. The pace is slow...just what one needs if they are on vacation but need a bit of the city.

Hand Carving on a Mausoleum

Hope Cemetery and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory were not far from Montpelier. We took in both of these sites in one day. The ice cream factory tour was somewhat disappointing...it moved very quickly, the tour guide spoke too rapidly and the majority of the tour was a video. However, the video was the most informative and interesting part of the tour. I wouldn't put this on my list of must do's unless I was travelling with children.

If you are into cemeteries and even if you are not, a trip to this memorial garden is worth its weight in granite. The hand carved tomb stones and vaults are worth seeing. The artisians who sculpted the stones were true masters of their craft.
