What a Wonderful Week We Had! My brother moved to London so long ago that no one in the family can figure out how long he's been there. When a timeshare vacancy in London was available, I jumped on it right away. If you believe in "things happen for a reason" that vacancy was one of those things. I packed my bags and on Christmas Eve day of 04, I boarded a plane to London.
Initially, London was not a place I'd have chosen to visit. But a 9 hour layover in the city, 20 years ago on my way to Kenya, changed my mind about one day returning to the U.K.
The week was spent seeing as much of the city as possible. A day trip to Stonehenge was a must. Of course, spending time with my brother...most memorable of all.
The public transportation system was extremely easy to navigate. I purchased a weekly pass and was able to travel throughout all transportation zones and on all buses and underground vehicles.
Christmas week was a good time to go. The weather was not too cold. Lots of lights. Although many visitors were there, and waits were expected I can only assume that the crowds/lines during the warmer seasons would lessen what I could do in a day.
Some of the things I/we did during the week included climbing the 311 step to the Monument , visiting the V and A museum, going to the theater to see Jerry Springer the Opera, going to Harrod's, visiting the first Hard Rock Cafe, walking around the city, riding buses around the city, going to London Tower, visiting London Dungeons (tourist trap but I liked it) to learn about medieval London, visiting Stonehenge, visiting a flea market, shopping at Virgin Records, visiting Westminster Abbey, eating out...the week was packed. |
| | The View was Worth All 311 Steps My brother and I spent a good day walking around London. We came across this tower and decided to climb it. The Monument, erected to commemorate the Great Fire of London, consisted of 311 narrow, spiraling stairs. The walk up was long. My brother is a smoker and doesn't exercise. But we made it. What awaited at the top made the huffing and puffing worthwhile. The view would have taken my breath away if i'd had any left. Please go to Tips in order to view the view. |
