SALZBURG AUSTRIA FROM THE BRIDGE NEAR MIRABELL GARDENS
Our visit to Austria in 2000 was as a part of a trip with a tour group of friends and acquaintances to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with a side trip to Venice.
The main city we visited in Austria was Salzburg, an enchanting mountain enclosed city in the curve of the river marked by an imposing fortress castle, with the Sound of Music and Mozart defining its very heart and soul.
We traveled from Salzburg to the picturesque village of Mondsee. Here is located the church where the wedding in the Sound Of Music was filmed. There is so much else to see in this lovely village alongside a lake with the mountains in the background.
We next traveled to the lake district village of Hallstadt that must be as close to picture perfect as a village can get. The food here is wonderful and the lake and montain views are spectacular.
The village of Lermoos, however, in the tyrolian Alps, not far from the German border and the Village of Oberammegau is the place that had the greatest effect on my wife Barbara and I. Here is the most breath-taking of the Austrian scenery, with the hillsides echoing the stories of Heidi, only missing the goats to make it complete. We only spent a short time here but this is the place where we want most to return.
