We found the service and attitude of staff relatively good here, and I guess the value is OK given its great location. But this place has one huuuuge drawback, this being the fact they have a DISCO IN BEHIND THE LOBBY. We were on the fifth floor and were treated to outrageously loud DOOF DOOF sounds from 9.30 until 2am - yes, that's 2am folks. The balcony was actually reverberating to the subwoofer beats. I'm not a particularly light sleeper but I didn't get a wink 'til it stopped. When I went down to complain at midnight the lobby was a constant stream of very inebriated local teenagers coming in and out. Two guys who went past me were actually carrying their friend out, who looked all of 16. Fun if you're about 18 but otherwise not so cool. They seemed concerned with my complaint but couldn't move us to another room because none were available. We moved out the next day.

Unique Qualities: Pool on roof was nice. No broadband or wifi in the rooms. had to go up to the restaurant to use wifi, where i was subject to deafening noise from jackhammers - renovation on the floors below

This place is not for everyone, but I liked it and will tell you why. First up the value is excellent. We paid only 50USD a night after booking with a local travel agent. Second, it's the quietest hotel in Vietnam. It's down a side street that is both wide and relatively tranquil - very rare in VN. On top of this they put double glazing on the windows which makes the rooms practically soundproof. There is a fantastic Korean restaurant in the lobby, and the complimentary breakfast in the main hotel restaurant was respectable. For people not used to Vietnam the location and atmosphere might be a bit weird. But for travelers who don't want to stay in their cultural bubbles it's a great chance to interact with the local middle class, as the facilities surrounding the hotel are popular with people who live in the area. You don't feel like a tourist here and there are none of the usual tourist hassles in this area. Local people are infinitely more open and friendly in this non-central location than down in district one.

No doubt the massage parlour is sleazy, but hey, it's Vietnam. My eldery father got propositioned by the masseuse in the five star Caravelle! Just steer clear of massage here is my advice.
