"The Holy temples of Yamadera" Yamadera by Mr.Sparkle

Yamadera Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 13 photos

Yamadera, or Risshaku-ji, is considered to be one of the most holy sites in all of Tohoku. The temple complex, consisting of over 40 temples, stretches out over a mountain over looking a scenic valley and town of Yamadera. The temple was founded in 860AD by a Zen priest Take the staircase up the mountain (over 1100 steps) and checkout the awesome views.

The nice thing about Yamadera is the temples and complex isn’t in your face. It’s really a nice laid back blend of natures and religion. A truly excellent place to commune.
