Ely is situated on the crossroads of Highway 93/6 and Highway 50. After living for 20 years in Alaska with only a couple highways and even fewer places to drive to, living here is a luxury. The roads are smooth and great for biking. The sun shines a lot but the weather is relatively mild. Even though this is high dessert (and at 6500' elevation) we do get the occasional storm. The photo is heading south towards Ely on Highway 93, about 6 miles outside of Ely.
End of October included changing colors on the leaves, geese flying south, and some snow and hail.

My favorite thing for relaxing is hiking the hills. I also like to rock hunt. SO the best of both is to head to Garnet... more travel advice
