It is difficult to get around if you have an actual destination - there are no street signs, and few people speak English well. About a 20 minutes by car (longer and more horrid by scooter) drive outside of Varadero, this will give you a taste of old Cuba. Architecture is great - the places that appear to be unfinished, or with only partial walls upstairs are in the process of building the living quarters for grown children with their new families.
