A bit rougher shopping zone on Sadovaya Street hs long been the place to go for better prices. Many foreign vendors. Watch out for unscrupulous characters and guard your wallet. Not recommended for the tourist to go alone. A misture of indoor shops and outside bazaar. You can get lost in the maze of shops. Built in the 1700s of wood buildings, it burned in1782. it was rebuilt in 1863 with a desing by Geronimo Corsini. This design exists today and is under constant renovation. There are probably 1000 shops there now.

Hip-Hop Pimp Shop: Hip-Hop lands with Mr. Pimp

|
Name of Shop: Hip-Hop Pimp Shop
Hip-Hop Pimp shop. What more is there to say? Hip-hop culture, music, break dancing and prolific graffiti, has fertile ground in Russia because it was not allowed in 1970 when hip-hop culture started in America. The grafitti branding is found in arches, courtyards, buildings and fences and as happened in America, the local government is playing catchup to stop the vandalism part of the activity.
What To Buy: Avoid the shop if you are from America. If you need this kind of thing, find it at home.

Souvenirs: Flea Markets- Udelnaya

Name of Shop: Souvenirs and street sellers
The biggest flea market is near the Udelnaya Metro and Train Stations. Go through the normal looking market kiosks of new import items for sale until you come to the covered tables of used items. First and 2nd hand clothes, then collectibles, tools and household items. The market follows the railroad tracks for about 1 km in the summer. At the end it expands to grandmothers with items spread on a cloth under the trees. There are a few quality vendors, but it might be best classified as garage sale or junk market. Thdere are many soviet pins and coins, some military and who knows what else.:) The market is open 10-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There are many impromptu flea markets in the outlying metro stations. You can find many collectible things or just junk. Books, dishes, clothes old shoes, you name it! They are along the way from Metro to the train stop. Watch your bag while you look around.
What To Buy: What strikes your fancy
What To Pay: barter for bargains
