Nightlife Spot: Jam Hall movie theaters
There are two Jan Hall movie theaters in St. Petersburg. They have sofas for seating 2 or 3 people and serve pizza and cocktails while you enjoy the show. You turn on a little red light on the small table in front of your sofa for service. The service is slow. For the midnight shows there is no food service and the waitresses leave in 15 minutes. Things from the bar are generally good and pizza not bad. Ice cream may taste old and soda may be served warm. But if the movie is good and the company good, it is a nice place!

Nightlife Spot: Jazz Philharamonic Hall
I heard the Valery Nagorny Trio. Valery is a well-known jazz saxophonist and composer. He may be teh best i have ever heard. He plays many melodic standards such as "Round Midnight" to his own modern compositions. For the foreigner it is a delightful mix of familiar and new. I am waiting to hear Valery at the Monterey Jazz Festival. :) Valery is lately on tour in europe and America. The Jazz Philharmonic Hall nightclub is a major venue for jazz in Saint Petersburg. The seating is cabaret tables with cocktails. The mural on the wall is of American jazz artist from the classic band era.

Dress Code: The audience is from casual to formal. A less demonstrative crowd than in US jazz venues. But obviously an appreciative audience. Nice place to go with friends to talk, hear good music and perhaps mingle a bit.

Nightlife Spot: Evening Outing
Take a few steps down from street level into a real Irish Pub with 14 varieties of beer and live music 5 nights a week. It seems odd that this is the only watering hole near the Marinsky Theater, the ultimate venue for classical music and ballet. Perhaps some feel the need for some folk music and beer arter a highbrow evening. :) Service is light, atmosphere relaxed. Televised Sports events may on cue. The CCE (Celtic City Experience) Irish band with Jenja and Elena was very pleasant for listening and talking to friends. Some nights may be noisy with louder music. :)
