Jewel of the Line Islands
Approaching Palmyra by sea it is a beauty to behold. Really an island paradise. Our small boat anchored in the lagoon for the night before we explored this tiny atoll the next day. Although administered by the United States government, The The Nature Conservancy owns the island and protects it carefully. Other than researchers/caretakers there were no other people living on the island. It has a long (1 mile?) runway which was put in for World War II use.
