For many years, my brother lived in San Diego, so that provided an excellent excuse for frequent visits...some of which included sailing jaunts on San Diego Bay. There are a raft of VT websites that will provide plenty of grist for the travel mill. I will try to give you a taste of the things that I enjoyed most, which might be a little off the beaten path. You'll definitely need a car to get to most of them, so budget for it!
The Hotel Del Coronado is my favorite hotel in the world. Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and...oh, that's my dementia kicking in, I can't recall the name of the other marvelous actor... starred in the Billy Wilder classic in which the Hotel Del stands in for someplace in Florida. Do yourself the favor of going for tea, anyway. Browse the shops. Stroll along the beach. Definitely worth the drive over the gorgeous Coronado Bridge.

If I return to San Diego, I must go to tea. It's something I've known about but never got to do. The hotel is gorgeous. Beaches wonderful.
