Restaurant Name: Melissa's, Claremont
Melissa's is half upscale food shop (try their specialty jams and chutneys by all means), and half superior cafe with tables inside and out and a luncheon buffet that is definitely worth the trip. A recent visit included Thai beef with noodles, a quiche with butternut squash and feta cheese, a salad of carrot, Granny Smith apples and mint in balsamic vinegar, and several other innovative and beautifully presented dishes; the menu changes daily, but there are also stock sandwiches available.
Favorite Dish: I liked everything I tried on the luncheon buffet, but the knock-your-socks-off experience occurred when I tried the Christmas nectarine relish, which includes coriander, cardamom, onion, cinnamon...well, it gave an entirely new spin to our filet mignon!
