I used to live in Las Vegas, Mount Charleston and Laughlin Nevada. I've traveled to Boulder City and many other cities as well. It may seem like nothing more than desert and casinos but that's where people make the mistake. They don't see the exotic desert cacti or the golden eagle. They don't see the purple mountain in the distance or the red sand that seems to glow orange in the fading sunlight. They miss the green plants that are strange and native to the land that seems like nothing could ever survive there.
It's harsh during the summer, and most stay indoors during the afternoon hours if they can help it, but it's worth the time to go. There's a lot to do and see. Just plan for it. Lake Tahoe is a resort, sure, but the sheer beauty of the flowers and shrubs in bloom and the scent of it are worth the "touristy" aspect.
Vegas seems like nothing more than casinos but if you take a minute to look up the history, you'll find it's a lot more interesting than it seems.
Try some of the less likely tourist spots.............. The old ghost town, the city that wild burrows are left to roam the streets. Try some of the strange occult bookshops. Maybe you'll find something interesting. Be open to new ideas. Try doing something you've never done. If you're not a trekkie, or even if you are, go take the ride. Go to the MGM Grand. Spend the extra cash and see a show. There's so much to do.
But take the time to look at places that don't seem to be tourist locales. What you find just might surprise you. |
