Cal Pep: The best seafood

Thanks to that restaurant I'm the seafood lover. The way they prepare it and the way it tastes is just one of a kind. You get sitted by the bar and there is no menu to choose from. You mainly point to the fridge to show what is it you'd like to try or ask the waiter to do it for you (I would highy recommend that option, I absolutelly trust the stuff at Cal Pep).
The place is very busy in the evening and the service is excellent, you get the next tapa before you finish the previous one. All in all it's all about feeding you and getting new customers on your place, isn't it?
There is just one "but" when it comes to Cal Pep. But, but it's expensive...

Favorite Dish: Some of my favourites are: chipirones con garbanzo (baby squids with peas), boquerones (little fishes), these tiny fishes - in winter time only, prawns in tomatoe - onion sauce, tallarines, almejas, mejillones.

La Fonda: Stay in the line before eating

  • Restaurant Name: LA FONDA

The restaurant is so great and has such fame that you have to wait up to 1 hr to get inside. It's actually huge but everybody wants to eat there. I was lucky coz it was 7 of us and they had a table waiting for us. So better find more people, if it's 2 of you, you'll be waiting forever.

Favorite Dish: The food is excellent and very reasonable. They have great seafood and fish. A salad with goat cheese for a starter and then codfish with ratatouille are well worth trying. They also have excellent choice of desserts and Crema Catalana with stawberries is one you shouldn't miss.
As for wine, you should try their Rioja Crianza. Really great and it's only 12 Euro per bottle.

  • Restaurant Name: La Rita

La Rita belongs to the red of some great restaurants, all very reasonable yet elegant with excellent service and most of all delicious food.

Favorite Dish: The fish is great, quite often served with vegetables like asparagus or spinach. Local soups definitelly worth trying are Salmorejo and Gaspacho, other vegetable creamy soups are also great. They also have some delicious sofisticated salads and the deserts are not to beat - Postre del Timbaon is the greatest deserts of all, also served in other restaurants in this red (in Barcelona it's La Fonda or Quinze Nits for example).

Les Quinze Nits: Worth queuing up too

If you go to Placa Reial and see the big line going through it, it's the people queuing up to get to the restaurant, which has 3 floors and tables outside. It's still not enough for all the people who want to eat here.

Favorite Dish: Great variety of starters, fish and meat dishes. Codfish with beans is delicious and as for desserts...... I would eat them all but one of the best choices will for sure be Crema Catalana with almond ice-cream and chocolate syrup. Yummy... :-)))

    Egipte: Great seafood and fish

The restaurant is full of people, rather locals than tourists what makes it a real Barcelonian restaurant. And as for locals, they are loud, talking and laughing and the atmosphere is just great.

Favorite Dish: Guess what? I had codfish here too. It was excellent. And chocolate cake was to die for. For seafood lovers they have great Arroz Negro which is rice with cuttle.
The second time I was here I had codfish with spinach and garlic sauce... also well worth trying.

CAL PINXO: The one with a view

  • Restaurant Name: CAL PINXO

The restaurant is situated in the promenade in Port Vell and has a really beautiful view. It's a bit too touristy though. The price is a bit too high for what you get. It's very delicious but the dishes are... well, quite small.

Favorite Dish: My sole in orange sauce was splendid but I would eat 4 of them not one. For dessert.... what else??? Crema Catalana of course.

Moncho's is a red restaurant and I've heard that quality and the prices depend on the place. The one I tried was just on the beach Nova Icaria. It's nothing fancy, actually quite ugly plastic furnishings but they serve excellent paella here at a very reasonable price. It would definitelly come to try this paella again.

    Favorite Dish: Pealla con Mariscos

There are 2 of these restaurants. One in Barcelona and another one in Paris on Boulevard Pereire, 271.

Favorite Dish: There is no dinner menu here, only one menu, the same one every day. There is a salad with a mustardy type dressing and walnuts for starter and then you get delicious already sliced sirloin steak in a great secret sauce and french fries. Once you finish your steak the waiter comes with a second part that is waiting for you at the table next to yours and is being heated by the candles on some special device.
The only menu they have is the one with desserts... :-))) Don't miss the profiteroles!!!

  • Restaurant Name: AMBOS MUNDOS

Ambos Mundos is one of my favourite restaurants in the city. It's right on the Plaza Real so it's really beautiful around, the food is excellent and the service is just great. The waiters are nice, quick and very funny too. I had such a good laugh with them.
As far as food, you should try their Paella, all salads, tapas, and crema catalana for a dessert. They make really great Sangria too.

It's a great tapas bar in the middle of Boqueria Market. The food is fresh, tastes great, you don't wait too long (unless there are other people all around the bar waiting for their turn) and the surrounding is quite unique too.
Almejas or calamares are well worth trying!
