Gran Via is one of the main big streets in the city. It was set in the middle of XIXth century and was supposed to be the symbol of modern Madrid. Without any doubt it still holds this title. Most of the buildings along the way were built in the beginning of XXth century and they are really amazing, the best examples of XX century architecture in the city. Gran Via made a really big impression on me.

It's one of the most beautiful places in the city. Coming from Puerta de Alcala you see Madrid raising in front of you, passing Plaza de Cibeles you see beautiful Gran Via. On the circle itself there is Fuente de Cibeles - white marble fountain with the goddess Cibeles sitting in the carriage with 2 lions. On one side of there circle there is my favourite building in Madrid, Palacio de Comunicaciones.

The main post building was raised in the beginning of XX century. It's my favourite building in Madrid, so luminous, an amazing work. It looks really nice both at night and during the day and tends to be compared to a wedding cake.

Palacio de Cristal was raised as a palm house for the Philippine Exhibition in 1887 and it was modeled after The Crystal Palace built in London for the World Exhibition. It's really calm a peaceful there. Very nice place for spending a lazy afternoon.

Some say Madrid is worth visiting even if it's only for Museo del Prado. There is the biggest Spanish painting collection in the world including most of Velazquez and Goya works. There are many Italian and Flamish paitings too, mostly represented by Bosch, Rubens, Tizian.
