Guinness Brewery: Guinness Storehouse
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This is one of those things you just do when you come to Dublin. I read many reviews talking about what a disappointment it was, but I have to disagree. I am no huge fan of 'the black stuff' but of course I have heard of it and wanted to make my family back home jealous that I had been to the home of Guiness. I was pleasantly surprised at the museum. The price was a little more than I would like to have paid- 11 Euro for a student over 18 and 15 for an adult (if you book online its 13.5 Euro for the adult ticket), but I enjoyed myself. It is a self guided tour of a display they have set up to show the process of making it. Its a high tech and somewhat interactive showing of the ingredience, process and marketing of this famous beer. The prescribed route is clearly labeled with large arrows so you get a nice sequence from begining to end. From harvesting of the ingredients, to preparation, to implementation and then to tasting in the tasting lab (where you actually get a taste like the professionals do), the whole process is laid out foryou in a clear and conise way. Of course most people's favorite part is the free pint of guiness you receive at the end of the tour, not only for the drink, but for the amazing views over Dublin you will get in the Gravity bar. The whole tour is on multiple levels of a pint-shaped building but when you reach the 7th floor where the Gravity bar is and where the free pints (or soft drinks if you prefer) are handed out, you can sit and relax with a 360 degree view over Dublin. On the 5th floor there is a restaurant with Guiness inspired food, including the Guiness and Beef stew, which I had and was quite tasty. I would say the Guiness store house is a must d, for the history, the fun and the free pint! Bottoms Up!

    Kilmainham Jail: Kilmainham Gaol
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This is an old jail opened in 1796 and closed in 1924. It was the site where many famous revolutionaries were held, and some executed. It was opened over the span of 6 major revolutions. The cost to get in was 5.30 Euros for adults and 2.10 Euros for students, which includes entrance to the museum and a guided tour of the jail, which lasts about 1 hour. The guided tour was actually really well done. The first part of it is a visual slide show where the tour guide explains a brief history of the jail and revolutions which increased its population. The gude was really great and gave just the right amount of information without boring you. You saw cells of famous political prisoners and sites of executions, including memorial plaque and paintings. The museum ther is quite interesting too. I would recommend going through the museum after the tour as many of the items there have significance to the stories you will hear on the tour and will mean a lot more to you after it. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, young and old.
