Barlig rice teraces are made of stone walled teraces, not mud like Banawe rice teraces.
The stone walled teraces has more character
Finding the road to Barlig was a treat.
Coming from Bontoc you will cross the Talubin junction. It will take 25 km from Talubin to reach Barlig. The vistas are great. You will notice the change of flora as you near Barlig. As you go higher up the gravel road, you will notice lots of moss growing like hair on the thick pine forest. As you go higher the pine forest would change to a cloud forest. You will see stunted looking trees like bonsai's filled with moss and wild orchids. Gawana is the town were you can get a room to stay. Gawana, Barlig is also the jump off point to Mt. Amuyao, the 3rd highest mountain peak in the Philippines.
Accommodations are basic and cheap.
There are two inns that you can choose from, Half Way Inn, and Sea World Inn.
- Pros:Its a place relatively unspoiled by commercialism
- Cons:No five star accodations
- In a nutshell:Its a place you would like to keep it a secret.
