Theft & Pickpocketing: Beware of Speeding Handbag Snatchers!
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Handbag snatchers are quite rampant now. These petty criminals are getting more braver all the time. Usually, they operate in pairs, and mostly on fast speeding motorbikes; the driver will speed by very fast and the second guy will grab, viciously tug and even push the handbag owners. A few of the victims ended-up in hospitals. Usually the whole thing would happen so fast that no-one had time to re-act.

So, to all ladies, there is no point carrying and walking around on the streets with fancy beautiful handbags. Be extra careful when you carry a bagpack.

Toilets & Sanitation: Beware of the Public Toilets
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The horror of public toilets. OK - the public toilets around the world are notorious for being disgustingly dirty and unhygienic; so smelly that you need oxygen masks just to enter. They are so bad that you are taking personal risks just to do a quickie/emergency pee-pee. AND don't even think about doing a big poo-poo job in these public toilets!

Anyway, I can say that public toilets around Kuala Lumpur is a bit better. But if I were you, I would avoid the free public toilets in markets, coffee shops, food arcades, shopping centres or malls (unless it's the fancy/expensive/paid ones like the KLCC or Lot 10), train or bus stations and the smaller restaurants.

The toilets can be very dirty, very wet and very smelly; sometimes they are seldom cleaned. Usually, you would have to SQUAT awkwardly and worst of all, there is NO TOILET PAPER. The flush systems are at times poorly maintained or seldom repaired, or worst, the toilet seats have dirty shoe prints! Yep, there are some ladies who have good acrobatic abilities to balance well on these toilet seats; I don't know how they could manage this incredible feats!

If you really have to visit a public toilet, find one with entrance fee (very cheap, only RM0.20 - RM0.50 per entrance); usually the paid ones are (slightly) better maintained than the free ones. And don't forget to bring your own paper tissue or toilet paper.
