My friend and I visited both Uxmal and Chichen Itza, and while both were wonderful, we loved Uxmal more. Its structures, particularly the Magician's Pyramid, are amazing to behold. You can actually climb a pyramid here (unlike Chichen Itza) and explore the ruins with relatively few tour groups blocking your way. Our day at Uxmal was my favorite of the trip.
Uxmal was built and lived in between 600 and 900 AD. The name Uxmal means "built 3 times," even though it was actually built and rebuilt 5 times. |
