Whidbey Island is about 30 miles north of Seattle and is the Pacific Northwest at it's best. And, this is my home. Travel tip: summers are glorious. Period.
This park is one of the most beautiful places anywhere. Coast, rainforest, mountains. Travel tip: if camping is not your thing, and you got the dough, stay in the Lake Crescent Lodge. Beautiful.
Spectacular desert scenery & lots of incredible hiking trails. Don't miss it! Travel tip: winters are cold, summers are hot. The best months are May, June, September, & October.
I could spend a lifetime exploring Alaska. I've been there three times and have barely scratched the surface. Travel tip: skip the cruise ships and ride the state ferries where you will meet the locals, be closer to the scenery, and have the opportunity to visit more small towns.
Often overlooked by Americans, Newfoundland is stunning beyond belief. And, the people are the nicest folks anywhere! Travel tip: icebergs float down from Greenland by the hundreds in the spring. June is best. And, be sure to visit Dildo Run Provincial Park...
If you like the desert, then this is the place for you! Spectacular scenery & abundant wildlife, especially colorful birds. Travel tip: go in mid-April when the wildflowers are peaking.
A world-class park & rightly so. The serengeti of North America--take your mega-zoom lens. Travel tip: to get away from the summer crowds, get onto a hiking trail. Better yet, camp in the backcountry (the campgrounds fill up by noon).
Charming towns, pastoral scenery, great skiing, peaceful canoeing, and Ben & Jerry's ice cream. What could be better? Travel tip: don't miss the Bread & Puppet Theatre in the town of Glover.
