General Info to not dry out & fun-stuff Airport of Hurghada, Egypt:
Coming from a pretty cold Berlin in Germany to Hughada was - a shock. We stepped out the airplane and there was liek a wall of hot, wet air that crashes us completly of course we had know that egypt is a very hot country but that was overwhelming - so first mission: suncreme searching - it is ABSOLUTLY neccassary to have a suncreme with a high safety even if you have not-so-fast-sunburn skin
be prepared to sweat, seriously you will BUT you will not smell! 'cause of the high wetness in the air, sweating is not smelling
DRINK ALOT, best is: always have a waterbottle at your side ___________________________________________________
why now traveling to egypt? I tell you - cause of the historical greatness! The graves of the Pharaos (dale of the kings and queens) in Theben (the west side of the Nil) - btw the Nil - GREAT thing, faszinating place, all dessert far and wide but trees and plants all around the Nil and tehre you will see the country people, egyptians that live like 100 yrs ago
also a reason to travel egypt - the people. Some will probably seem importunate but you can be sure - if you need something, they will help you whoever you are. It's absolutly normal that you get ask for Tea in every store you go in (Hollyhock-Tea mostly) and it would be pretty inpolite to say no
and you will be surprise how good hot tea is by hot weather
another reason to travel egypt - the view. Wherever you look to you will see dessert - HUGE amounts of sand and the ocean - clear and wavy water ABSOLUTLY GREAT for surfing etc - watersport is a high-written thing in Hurghaa especially and there are also the Markets. Wonderfull, great smelling markets, that sell hundreds of spices, fruits, veggis and drapery
egypt is indeed a place that worth visiting |
General Info for Food & Drink Egypt is an islamic country - accept that they will not serve you alcohol (it would be stupid anyway by 40°C)
In hotels, you often get a pretty european cuisine what is good for your tummy but bad for your cultural knowledge - so go in a local egyptian hosted restaurant if you can - but better don't eat fish
try to get a breadlike something with oil on it - it's actually just a thing you eat to get appetite but it's GREAT!
DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER! Really don't - water bottles with good water are for sale everywhere for nearly nothing - so do yourself a pleasure and buy water, the hotel you stay in will probably tell you that too |
General Info for peoples mood That egypt is islamic i said before - so besides no alcohol that means it could happen that the airport people fall on there knees at times just cause its time for praying
if someone prays, try to NOT pass him in front of his face - cause that means he has to start again, just wait a bit, when the praying time is over he/she will act like nothing happend ^^
another thing for women: if you wanna visit a moschee or similar places - wear a skirt (a long one) and no free shoulders, if you accidently did, they will give you a shawl but better bring your own
btw: men are also not allowed to go with free shoulders
children can come however they want so long they don't reach the teenage age
Now there's a thing i can just tell you NOT to do: don't drive with a normal taxi - if you want to go somewhere on your own - take a "dollmush" that are little busses mostly private hosted that will bring you to any important place and are A LOT cheaper then anything else and safe
also a No-No - giving "bakshish" - kids, mostly very poor looking will ask for alms by asking for "bakshish" - DON'T give any! not even a little - sounds rude? yes but they will follow you and that can end in a desaster so DONT give any |
