Puerta del Sol is the "center" of it all. If you go here, you really have the whole central city in walking distance.

Taking a trip on the Madriv Vision tour buses is maybe not the most "Madrilleñero" thing to do. It gives you though a beautiful overview of the central parts of the city and it's biggest attractions. Both the tour around the new and old Madrid is more than worth the time you spend on the bus. Don't forget to brings your own earphones because the ones you get on the bus isn't very good.

When I went to the Prado Museum I didn't know what to expect. I had ofcourse heard about it before I went to Madrid but since I'm not a devoted art lover you'll never know. It really blew my mind, it was so fantastic! I got the audiotour of the place which guided me throgh all the most important paintings and that was fantastic. I spend 4 hours with just the audiotour and I really have to go back and look it all over again because my mind was just so full of impressions so I had to go out of there.

A big park right in the center of Madrid. With a lot of space to walk around in, cafés to drink your coffee, or just sit down in the different gardens within the park. A beautiful place to get away from all the city noice.

The town hall, or the Casa de la Villa started construction in 1644 by Juan Gómez de Mora, the architect of the Plaza Mayor. Over time a number of architects were in charge of the construction of the Town Hall until it was finished in 1696 by Teodoro Adremans. The building served both as town hall and prison, hence the two symmetrical doors. The left one gave entrance to the prison, the other one to the town hall.

The construction of Almudena Cathedral was originally started in 1883 not as a cathedral construction but as a church construction. In 1884, Madrid became a diocese by Pope Leo XIII and this made it possible to build a cathedral instead of a church. The work continued until 1999 but in 1993 the cathedral declared complete and the cathedral was the same yeas consecrated by Pope John-Paul II. The cathedral is 104 meters long and 76 meters wide. The central dome has a diameter of 20 meter. The interior is very modest and somewhat modern if you compare it to other cathedrals in the region. When you enter the cathedral don't miss to look at the fantastic doors!!!
