The pearl of the Mediterranean - Lebanon

Beirut - a very charming city

Part of re-built, not-so-badly ruined city centre
Unfortunately that time I had time to visit only Beirut and the surroundings.

I was so happy to see how well and much the Beirut was re-built after the war, but on the other hand sad to see still so many collapsed and shot down buildings - even with people living in them.
In Beirut there are (too) many marks of war for those who are interested (the neutral meaning) in war history. Many famous places. I have to admit too, that I wanted to see from the map where the "Green Line" once was etc. Just curiosity and history interest like in any other country.

The "teleferique" (French); cable car, is worth trying in a place called Jounieh near Beirut city. It takes you up to 800-900 meters on a hill to a St. Virgin Mary's statue on which you can climb even higher.
We ate one week's food and were served like royals

Elsewhere in Lebanon?

Definitely!

Next time I go there I will definitely visit a small place called Bsharri in northern Lebanon - as it is the hometown of my favourite poet, world famous Lebanese-American Kahlil Gibran. The home and a museum are still existing.

Lebanon is also known for its wines, especially from the Bekaa Valley. Wine tastings are organized there.

Lebanon has so much to offer. Also great beach life with good hotels.

The Lebanese people

Fondest Memory: I miss the most the people - I was treated so well both by Christians and muslims. It was moving. You could see the happiness in people's faces when they saw tourists (there were not many; we did not see any actually). I think they need the tourism, money and good reputation to stand up again and rebuild like they have been doing all the time.

I was moved of the fact that how openly our driver-guide-friend talked to us about his personal things and wanted to give us the best. I have to admit I miss the person every now and then.

Pros:"Beautiful; by the sea, the climate, great people and food"
Cons:"Just be cautious and follow the news (sometimes political unrest)"
In A Nutshell:"A BEAUTIFUL country with happy friendly people"
