By the entrance of the microbrewery restaurant.
I immediately liked the place - for me already the fact that something is a little rugged or at least wooden - is a sign of a cosy place. I do not warm up for those trendy expensive neon light cafés which overcharge for everything. I like everything local wherever I go.
I liked the feeling where there were no coin machines, not loud music, nothing too modern, not too well lit. I get sick of that; I need to have a place with FEELING and its own soul, no matter the place is cheap or more upmarket.
You don't have to eat here if you need a longer list or more variety - there are plenty of restaurants in the old town. Paying a visit just for one beer is worth it. They brew so good beers and have the "beer coctails" - so many flavors that I would have liked to stay there for the rest of the evening!
Favorite Dish: I ate something which was called "Idaryta bulvé" in the Lithuanian language. It was very typically Baltic; lots of mayo and creme products used, otherwise also a little heavy and not perhaps the best for those with lactose-intolerance (but I always have the lactophasillus bacteria tablets with me anywhere in the world so no problem even in places like India and Africa).
The food contained a lot of delicious potato, lots of onion, creme or smetana, herring or baltic herring and herbs. The price shouldn't fall anyone: 7 litis.
I also tried a glass of local vodka (50 ml) at the price of 4 litis.
And the beer was so good that I had to buy 2 x 1 litres' bottles with me (plastic bottles); when I went to the hotel to have a break in the afternoon it was nice to have something to drink. A bottle (1 litre) cost 8 litis to take out.

First of all the surroundings and athmosphere: to be honest I walked and passed by a couple of times to find a menu outside, as I didn't dare to go in directly - the place looked too upmarket for my budget of that time.
I anyhow went in, saw downstairs a cabinet full of wine bottles, stairs up, colours stylish in wine red and red, nice lamps...the same theme continued upstairs in the very spacious place. Very nice, quiet, no music. I was sure this is expensive.
But as I saw the menu I was surprised: it was just the average price, perhaps a little bit higher than in the small local places in the small streets (this was now in one of the main walking streets in old town).
Favorite Dish: I think I would have had several favorites - I kept the menu a very long time and thought and compared - so many portions to choose from!
I ended up to a pizza as I was super hungry. Great selection of pizzas! It was what they promised in the menu; very tasty, juicy and delicious. Enough supplements/stuff on it. They even had some different pizzas to choose from (some tex mex and other chili flavored hot ones; also pizzas containing full beef fillet).
I saw they had a portion of fresh tuna steak, meat steaks, something for everyone.

Vilnius is full of different cafés and bakeries, which is very nice. E.g. our own Helsinki misses this culture almost totally. In Vilnius, instead, you can be sure you don't have to walk long to the next café.
Usually they nowadays have good selections of normal- and special coffees, hot chocolates and so on; as well as alcoholic coffee drinks.
Many places offer even food; even more often bakery products.
This is a good stop if you have walked from the old town (smaller streets) and are about to turn back but want to rest your legs. Gediminos is the main (shopping) street of Vilnius.
Smiling nice staff.
Favorite Dish: I didn't eat - I just took an Irish Coffee to warm up; it was very cold and windy outside (December).

This well-known Lithuanian restaurant is almost also a sight to see.
The name means something like "Craftmans place", and it can be seen in the athmosphere and furnishing and all.
For those who like dark places with wooden -a bit old- furniture- but cheap beer and good local food.
The staff was great! They were so friendly that they helped me to find my old friend; they tried to find and even called the number my old/ex Lithuanian penfriend who used to live in Vilnius.
Favorite Dish: Don't remember anymore...only remember I liked it a lot.
