When in Monte Gordo, Algarve in Portugal, we wanted to visit Spain too as it is only a few kilometres to Spain from Monte Gordo, which actually officially belongs to the area of Vila Real de Santo Antonio (the border town in Portuguese side).
In the Spanish side, Ayamonte is the first town. It belongs to the Andalucia area of Spain. |

| | Portugal-Spain either by driving or by ferry You can either drive with your car to Spain (no border controls; you don't even stop anywhere in the highway - two European Union countries) or you can take a ferry which takes you and your car over the river which is the border between Portugal and Spain. |
