Attractions in Dayton, OH

Things to Do: Dayton

Baseball: Dayton Dragons. The games are fun to go to just being outside or getting involved in the game. Dragon and Miss Dragon "Heater" come out on the field to do little skits and throw t-shirts. The Dragons usually win, so there games are fun to go to.

Basketball: Hara Arena. Univ. of Dayton among other teams play there.

Museums: The Art Institute. This a must go if you're into art. There are many sculptures and paintings to see. The paintings are are from a wide range of eras. Glass sculptures downstairs are awesome to see! Wright Patterson Airforce Museum. Lots of planes and US Navy/Airforce history.

Antique Car Museum. The museum is known for its many Packard cars. This museum is in downtown Dayton off a side street. There are some beautiful large "gangster" cars from the 20s era on one side and sportier cars on the other side of the museum.

Restaurants. There are a few "gourmet" restaurants in the "ritzi" part of town if you can afford it in Oakwood also called Far Hills area. There are a couple of French cuisine restaurants which I have been told are very good but pricey, L'Auberge and C'est Tout Cafe. L'Auberge I met the head chef there personally, a nice guy with an Austrian accent. He has won European awards for his gourmet recipes. I have been told it's the best gourmet restaurant in Dayton. There are two sections, a piano bar with tables and dance floor in the rear and the dining area in the front. Fancy linen and crystal and lots of staff running around.

Dorothy Lane Market, a gourmet grocery in Far Hills, has a cooking school also. You can sign up to be on their newsletter for postings on the classes which are usually in the evenings 6pm-8pm during the week. I attended one class on different wines and appetizers there. It was around $65 just for me. The wine instructor was very knowledgeable. I received copies of all the wines and recipes which was helpful. You can watch from your table toward the front on a big mirror where the instructors are cooking. You can participate when asked also. I got three recipes I liked out of it, but it's not cheap guys and girls. If you're into cooking, the Dorothy Lane Market has some interesting, hard to find, cooking ingredients. Oh yeah, and pricey.

MCL cafeteria, Oakwood, is my dad's favorite place to eat after Pearsons House in West Milton, OH. It is has great food and a large selection. MCL is an "older crowd place", but worth going to for great food.
