More than a stopover on the way to the border

Nice strollable streets, a comforting cool wind, Caribbean pines and a shady Plaza... Estelí is much more than a stopover on the way to the Honduran border. A strong support base for Sandinistas during the war - and later on, since FSLN won here in 1990 and 1996's elections -, this city appears to have one of the most politically aware populations in Nicaragua, along with León. This was a place where I was cheered for being a Brazilian, especially because we have a leftist president in Brazil.

There's a good Galería de Mártires y Héroes and ao nice bar to sit and discuss politics with the Nicas. Estelí is really worth a stop!

I will pass Esteí coming from Honduras. I haven't decided jet if I shall stay for a night or two or not.
